"Traumland"

Adventures of painting

Last summer master Röhrig received the order for a big oil painting. With fun and enthusiasm he went straight to work and was already in progress for a week when he found out to his fright that the painting had a wrong format. According to the order it was meant to be 180 x 160 cm big, but due to a misunderstanding he had painted it on 210 x 160 cm.

This little disaster slowed the master down considerably and he couldn’t help but start all over again. This meant he had to arduously repaint all the already painted details. This really took the wind out of his sails. The order was eventually completed successfully, but now the incomplete, wrong formatted misfortunate piece was still standing on an easel and somehow waited to be completed.

Röhrig used the opportunity to create a free work, namely following a motive that he had painted already 10 years ago, but smaller and with water colors. Basically a great opportunity to perfect his oil painting techniques. The painting illustrated here is the result.

And so the “flop” of this summer turned into a successful piece of art after all, which now hangs in the studio for visitation – large, a compelling charisma... a highly visible dream land... dreaming land... dreamt land? Definitely a feast for the eyes.

Many Röhrig fans may not know this, but in the last 30 years his pieces of art were painted mainly with a water color technique. Out of 2000 paintings that came into existence in this period, only about 70 of them are oil paintings, mostly large-sized pictures. An oil painting from Carl-W. Röhrig is thus a real rarity and whoever owns one, can count himself lucky.
