Art means seeing truth
Carl W. Röhrig talks with VISIONEN about his pictures and their messages
1.600 Paintings, over 2200 Illustrations and uncountable drawings - C.W. Röhrig is one of the most creative artist of our time. With his "fantastic naturalism" he is both spiritually and environmentally dedicated. Year after year VISIONEN put his pictures on their cover, the last one was in the October issue 2007.
Mr. Röhrig, how did you get to this "fantastic naturalism"? What does this term mean? Which message is behind it?
At the time when I was very young and my art was still at its outset, I was a big admirer of the surrealism. René Magritte, Dali and Max Ernst were the ones to inspire me the most. Later it was the painters of the fantastic realism, that mainly during the seventies and eighties became a lot of attention in the media and in the news. This group of painters are 15-20 years older then myself and paint with the very same visual language that I was aiming for with my painting. The surrealism was an art of direction, that brought the subliminal of humans to expression in a very special way, or rather made it to the main point of the program.
