Undoubtedly, nature is our physical home. It is nature that means for us, besides a variety of threats, also security and survival.
Once everything is cut down, there will be left only a meager and desolate spheres of rock on which it will be very difficult to feel at home.
By the end of the 80’s I was asked to work on a book for the protection of the rain-forest. I created three paintings for this book that caused more works to follow. This wonderful book was published under the title "The Garden of Eden Must not Die" by the "Association for the Protection of the German Forest".
The most famous paintings out of the 1990 series was the one called „Animals of the Rain-forest“. The success of these motifs gave me the idea for another series called „Ancestral Portrait Gallery of Endangered Species“, of which some works can be seen in the art book with the same name. The „World Wide Fund for Nature“ (WWF) took over the patronage for this project. Through the sale of limited art prints a large sum for the protection of the rain forest was raised. Countless exhibitions in many cities followed.
What really mattered to me while working on various animal paintings was that artistic alienation was present in them because to me nature itself is a splendid work of art. One can admire the beautiful color harmonies especially of butterflies and birds, and unusual forms in nature inspire us to new creations in various areas. Realizing these paintings was a challenge to my discipline and technical skills. It is interesting to note that while I have been producing the animal paintings over the last couple of years, more almost abstract paintings have developed, influenced by the variety of color and form of nature I have mentioned above.
