While working on the animal portraits for the series „Ancestral Portrait
Gallery of Endangered Species“, which required enormous painting discipline,
the desire arose to produce completely free „undisciplined“ paintings. The
painting depicted in this chapter emerged, unusually for me, completely
spontaneously. Although I normally do not leave anything to chance, I
experimented a lot in these paintings.

Many form- and color-effects originated by mixing different materials for example: water and salt. The sweep of my hand and my spontaneous sensitivity to colors form the basis of my painting. My scratching-technique – using sharp knives - added light and brightness to the colors and forms. An immediate theme for these paintings was not uppermost in my mind while I was doing them.

My plans for some of my future paintings is a larger number of square
meters of color arrangements executed in a similar way.
