Carl-W. Röhrig

Not being able to move out of rooms and situations in which you no longer want to be is a very explosive theme for me.

Who ever hoards lot of possessions will realize sooner or later how this ties them to obligations. These possessions will start to rule their life and it is possible that they realize that they are no longer free. They busy themselves maintaining, saving and bringing their material things up to date. These realizations are more likely the cause of the notorious „midlife–crisis“ than of a sexual last-minute panic.

The painting „Woman in a Shoe“ (surrealistic art), 1995, tells about the painfully beautiful lack of freedom resulting from the dictates of fashion that women undergo for us men.

The man that longs to own a big car and get as rich as possible will most likely find himself in the situation where he can no longer attain self-realization.

I find myself also mixed up in an artistic lack of freedom. For example, people expect me to produce the „typical Röhrig“. These expectations tend to restrict my artistic freedom very much.

The explosiveness of this topic is also part of my life. I do not want in the end to be a prisoner of my own work. Thus I am convinced that creativity is only possible through self-determination.
